Here's the Reason How the Thai Boys Managed to Keep Calm During Their Cave Ordeal
October 27, 2018
The amazing story of the 12 Thai boys and their soccer coach, who were trapped in a complicated cave system during a heavy flood, made headline news globally.
The most fascinating thing was that, when they were found by the British rescue divers, they were reportedly seen meditating!
Commenting on a shared video of the boys at the moment they were found by the divers, the mother of one of the boys said, "look at how calm they were sitting there waiting. No one was crying or anything. It was astonishing."
According to various sources, the boys' coach, Ekapol Chanthawong, 25, was actually a Buddhist monk for about 10 years before becoming a soccer coach. He taught the boys (aged 11 to 16) how to mediate in the cave in order to help them stay calm and preserve energy [COMPOSURE] during their two-week ordeal.
Scientific studies also show that meditative techniques can be helpful in controlling anxiety and improve mental health. This amazing story also reinforces the science behind the group's survival!
PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS:
- Learn relaxation and breathing techniques (component parts of meditation) regularly
- Practice these composure skills when under stressful situations to help manage stress and anxiety better
