Stress Busters: Mental Toughness As a Resilience Resource for Stressed Out University Students

In a recent research conducted by Associate Professor Mohammad Haghighi from the Research Center for Behavioral Disorders & Substances Abuse on 207 medical students...

They found that:
  • stress was related to more frequent health complaints
  • whereas mental toughness was associated with fewer mental health complaints
In addition:
  • higher levels of stress was associated with students who experienced higher burnout for those with lower mental toughness

This study's findings suggests that mental toughness -- as a stress resilience resource -- may be a key mental health intervention for the university student population.

University students may therefore benefit from a long-term, systematic mental toughness skills program to help them cope with the stressors of higher education.
